Awareness and voice
- Spot trouble early
- Keep a safe distance
- A loud, strong NO
12 weeks to a braver, more confident kid. Start any week. No lock-in contract.
Three blocks of four weeks, each one building on the last. By week 12 the skills are second nature, and every kid who finishes gets a certificate.
Week 12: Yellow belt grading. A certificate for every kid who finishes.
Real karate, taught the way kids learn best: short, loud, fun and repeated until it’s automatic. Here’s everything on the mat over the 12 weeks.
Every punch, block and kick starts from the ground up. Strong feet make a strong kid.

Feet shoulder-width apart, fists in front, eyes up. Ready for anything.

Long and low. Front knee bent, back leg straight, hips facing forward.

Wide feet, knees pushed out, back tall, like riding a horse.

Most of your weight on the back leg, so you can move away fast.

Side-on, hands up, light on your feet. Small target, quick to move.
Fast, straight and controlled. Kids learn to hit pads and shields, never people.

From the hip, twist the fist at the end, pull the other hand back.

A quick front-hand punch. Fast out, faster back.

The back hand. The hips turn and drive all the power.

Step forward and punch with the same side, all in one move.
Flick the back of the fist out like cracking a whip.

Fingers back, push with the heel of the hand. Strong and safe on little wrists.
Blocks protect the head, body and legs, and teach kids to stay calm when something comes at them.

Forearm sweeps up above the head to protect the face.

Sweep the arm down past the knee to protect the belly and legs.

Forearm swings across from the outside in, guarding the chest.

Forearm swings from the inside out, pushing the attack away.

Open hand, fingers together, usually in back stance.
Legs are our strongest tools. Kicks build balance, flexibility and serious confidence.

Knee up first, snap the foot out, hit with the ball of the foot, pull it back.

Knee up to the side, pivot on the standing foot, swing through.

Lift the knee, push the heel straight out sideways.

Look over your shoulder, then drive the heel straight back.

For up close: grab, pull and drive the knee up.
The skills that matter most outside the dojo, practised until they are automatic.

Stop hand up, big voice: “STOP! I don’t know you!” Noise brings help.

Two big steps away from anyone who makes you feel unsure.

Twist towards the thumb, the weakest part of any grip, and pull free.

Drop your weight, make yourself heavy, wriggle and get out.

Tuck the chin, slap the mat, roll. Then get straight back up.

Stand tall, use calm words first, walk away and tell a trusted adult.
Want them practising at home? Every move above is in the free Karate Kids Handbook, with step-by-step how-tos.

Every stance, punch, block and kick from the course, with simple step-by-step how-tos, a home practice plan and a 12-week sticker chart. Made for kids 5 to 12 to read with mum or dad.
Stand Strong runs inside our Juniors (5 to 12) classes, so your child trains in the same class, with the same instructor, every week.
None at all. Stand Strong is built for kids who have never set foot in a dojo. Every week starts from where they are.
Whenever you’re ready. There’s no intake date to wait for: your child’s 12 weeks start at the first class you book, in our regular Juniors class.
The opposite. The first thing they learn is to spot trouble early and use their voice; the last thing they learn is to stand tall and walk away. Strikes go on pads and shields, never on other kids.
No lock-in contract. After 12 weeks you decide: walk away with a certificate, or keep training with the class they already know.
Comfy clothes they can move in. We train barefoot on mats, so no shoes on the mat. Bring a water bottle and arrive about ten minutes early so we can say hello.
A yellow belt grading. Every child who finishes the course gets a Stand Strong certificate, and those who are ready grade for their yellow belt.

Pick a dojo and a night, and their first class is booked. Two minutes.
